Philadelphia Gallery Recap

Here are some spaces of interest in Philly:

SINErgy Project Space + Gallery (sinergyspace.com): This is where my piece is for the show Lets Play Nice. It is a great open warehouse space that is huge! Reminded me so much of our Chestnut shows. It used to be a lamp factory and then was an underground marijuana growing factory and now is this art space. They owners also use it for musical endevours kind of like our after parties. From what I can tell they are interested in interactive, installation type exhibits. But may be a good space to pitch a show. There website is new so hopefully more info will come soon but I took some pictures of the space I can show on Sunday.

Painted Bride Art Space (http://www.paintedbride.org): Also very large space. Downstairs they had an exhibit of alternative process photography of the body which was okay. In a nook under the stairs they had a crazy video installation complete with a small shrine and a hammock within the video part so people could lay amongst the video. Upstairs they had a exhibit of drawings and paintings by a local graffiti artist named Le Josh. You were supposed to wear 3d glasses or these weird kaleidoscope glasses to view the work.  This space also has cultural music performances and modern dance and is really close to center city.

Space 1026 (space1026.com): Located in Chinatown. We were late for this opening and missed it but my friend was explaining it as a co-op space. The interesting thing is they've been having different groups and guest artists come in and curator the shows. I definitely think we should send them a proposal.

Vox Populi (http://www.voxpopuligallery.org): This was my favorite! This gallery is in this large older building (on the outside of Chinatown, I think?) that has many different spaces. They were showing 4 exhibits in their space, drawings, sculptural installation, digital photography and video. On their website they have a submission process and if you are selected they will award you $500 to get there. So if we pitched a show as a collective that could at least cover getting our work there maybe? It was a very clean space and also seemed to get a lot of press from the local media.

Finally, went to NY but didn't really see that much work. Kind of arted out by then. Did get over to the New Museum for a somewhat disappointing exhibit by Lynda Benglas. Just not exactly what I expected.
